The Hidden Costs of Sharp Debris on Job Sites
Every construction manager knows that keeping sites clear of sharp objects matters - but many don't realize just how much it affects the bottom line. Here's what industry research tells us:

When Workers Get Hurt
- Medical bills for even a simple cut can hit $20,000
- Add in lost work time and other costs, and that number can double
- Insurance rates typically go up after injuries
Equipment Problems
- Flat tires and damaged tools mean unexpected repairs
- Equipment sitting idle costs money every hour
- Regular cleanup prevents most of these headaches
Schedule Impacts
- Safety incidents can shut down work
- Delays mean paying for equipment and workers longer
- Missing deadlines can damage client relationships
Following the Rules
- Safety violations mean fines
- Insurance costs more after incidents
- Extra inspections eat up time and money
Looking at the Bigger Picture
- Every injury risks future business opportunities
- Workers quit more often when sites feel unsafe
- Productivity drops when people worry about getting hurt
The key takeaway? Dealing with sharp debris isn't just about safety - it's about running a profitable project. Prevention costs far less than cleaning up after problems occur.

How the company was born
Ever since I could remember, I've had a deep passion for cars. Driving has always been more than just a way to get from point A to point B—it's a genuine love for the machines themselves. Each car I’ve owned has been special, and I’ve always taken great care in appreciating it. But with that love comes an awareness of when something’s wrong. One of my biggest fears is my car breaking down, and for me, a flat tire feels like the ultimate sign of distress.
Over the years, I've had my fair share of flat tires, and more often than not, they’ve been caused by nails or screws lodged in the tire. I never really thought much about it—just chalked it up as one of the risks of driving, assuming debris would always find its way onto the road.
That changed during a recent trip to my local tire shop. I was there for three hours, waiting while they worked on my car. As I listened to the reasons customers were there—almost all of them because of a screw or nail in their tire—it hit me: there has to be a better way to deal with the amount of metal debris littering the streets. This was a bigger problem than I had realized, and it sparked an idea.
That’s when **UNSCREWED** was born—a mission to clear the roads of hazardous metal debris that cause flat tires and breakdowns. We dug deep into research, identifying the sources of this debris and understanding the impact it has on drivers like us. What we found made it clear: there’s a real need for what we’re doing. And now, we’re dedicated to making our roads safer, one tire at a time.
